Welcome To Cavity Wall Insulation

Cavity Wall & Loft Insulation Grants

Home insulation grants are widely available for ALL owner/occupiers and private tenants, regardless of your level of income. These Grants are funded by the government and are NON-REPAYABLE.

Many of these grants will come to an end, once the funding available is exhausted. Make sure that you apply immediately so you are not left out in the cold.

Cavity Wall & Loft Insulation Grants

There are two types of insulation grants that are available to homeowners and private tenants. These broken down consist of: 1. 100% grants these simply cover the FULL cost of Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation. 2. Partial grants for insulation can cover the cost up to 50% to 70%.

In either case the insulation grants are arranged by approved installers and thus they do not need to be paid back at all.

To see which category you are best placed within read below:

100% Insulation Grants

Entitlement for a 100% Cavity Wall Insulation or Loft Insulation Grant, meaning the entire cost of the insulation work is covered is indeed restricted to those person(s) above the age of 70 years (under 70, will not receive a 100% insulation grant unless they also receive a qualifying benefit) or where any person living in the house receives one of the following benefits, tax credits or allowances:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Council Tax Benefit (single person's discount and student exemption do not qualify)
  • Council Tax Benefit (single person's discount and student exemption do not qualify)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Disabled Persons Tax Credit
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Housing Benefit
  • Child Tax Credit (net combined household income must be under £16,040 excluding all benefits)
  • Working Tax Credit (net combined household income must be under £16,040, excluding all benefits)
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit *
  • Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • War Disablement Pension **
  • Pension Credit (state pension only does not qualify)

* Must also be in receipt of Constant Attendance Allowance

** Must include Mobility Supplement or Constant Attendance Allowance

The reasoning behind this exemption is relatively simple. The government and utility companies consider these households to be a priority, which is why insulation is offered free of charge. This type of funding is also known as 'Priority Group'. However, before this fully funded grant can be given you will be required to provide evidence of your age or benefits received.

Partial Home Insulation Grants

All homeowners and private tenants are eligible for a partial insulation grant, which will cover the cost for up to 50% to 70% of the installation cost. Even if you do not qualify for a 100% insulation grant, you can still qualify for partial insulation grant. All homeowners and private tenants are eligible for this grant, it is also known as 'Able to Pay Funding'. Thus, meaning that householders will have to contribute a small amount of money towards the cost. However, this is usually covered in saving made on heating bills, within the first two years of installation.

Loft Insulation Grants

These have restrictions, this is depending on the depth of insulation already in the loft. If you are 70 or over and on the free schemes, this restriction is on average 100mm (4 inches) consequently you may only qualify for a partial grant. On the other hand, if you receive a benefit, the limitations differ depending on the scheme and your area. An existing depth of up to 100mm (4 inches) is usually allowed on the partial grant schemes. However, there may be an application of extra charges to larger properties; in addition a charge may also be applied if scaffolding or other special access equipment is required.

Like many people, you are probably sat there thinking why should I bother insulating my home? Well, there are number of significant reasons as to why should, here are just a few examples:

  • 1. Proper insulation reduces energy costs.
  • 2. A well-insulated building does not gain or lose heat as quickly as a badly -insulated one, thus insulating it ensures that is easier to maintain a comfortable temperature.
  • 3. The retention of conditioned air decreases the demands on the heating and cooling systems. Therefore, reducing the operating costs and extending the life of the system.
