Cavity Wall Insulation

"The proof of the success of cavity wall insulation is the large number of householders who enjoy its trouble-free benefits. Six million homes already have cavity wall insulation".

Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Cavity Wall Insulation The Government strongly recommends cavity wall insulation for all suitable existing houses. 'Up to half of all heat lost in an average house goes straight through the walls. Proper wall insulation can stop up to two thirds of this heat loss', says the Government energy efficiency division (within the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs).

The cavity wall insulation is a maintenance free, permanent home improvement, which will last the life of the building?( in accordance to the government Building Research Establishment)

Cavity Wall Insulation

Poorly insulated walls are the direct reason behind why the majority of homes lose heat. If your house was built after the 1930s it is almost certain that it was constructed with cavity walls, meaning it will be suitable for cavity wall insulation. Cavity wall insulation is the most successful way of reducing your heat loss. You will not only benefit from it in the winter but also in the summer.

What does it involve?

Cavity wall insulation is injected into the cavity between the inner and outer leaves of brickwork that make up the external wall of your property. We will do this from the outside of your property. This is done so, using various different types of insulating materials depending on which we feel is better for your wall, essentially they all work in the a variety of different insulating materials, through combining with the still captive air, the insulation acts as a barrier to heat loss.

Insulating your walls couldn’t be any simpler- it can usually be applied outside through the small holes, which are drilled in the wall by our trained technicians. The substance is then inserted through the holes, filling the cavity. There is no need for cause of concern as the holes are filled in to make an exact or near to perfect match with the existing wall.

This outcome of this means that the “cavity” between the inner and outer masonry skins of your outside walls is filled with insulation. Houses built in the last ten years have this insulation built-in when the house is assembled; however, many older houses do not.

How to identify if your house needs a cavity wall insulation done?

Cavity Wall Insulation The first step is to see if your house has been constructed within the period of 1920 to 1989, and that the house conforms to the building regulations of keeping cavities in the walls that allows heat loss.

You need to measure the width of the external walls of your house to identify whether your house has cavities or it consists of solid wall brickwork. The external walls width should exceed 260mm in depth, if there are cavities in the walls while a narrower wall suggests your walls have solid brickwork pattern and does not require cavity wall insulation being installed.

If your walls are damp then they can’t be insulated therefore you need to consult a builder or cavity wall insulation specialist to carry out a survey. If you need a professional we can help and also help you to get a government grant which will reduce the expenses for Cavity Wall Insulation. Contact Us or fill our form.
